The first recipe calls for aleppo pepper. Here is what Gourmetsleuth says about
Aleppo pepper.
About Aleppo pepper
Aleppo peppers are moderately hot red chilies from Turkey and Northern Syria are sun-dried, seeded and crushed. Also known as Halaby pepper, Aleppo pepper, is the preferred capsicum for adding the gentle edge of authentic Mediterranean flavor and fragrance.
Substitute for Aleppo pepper
To make an aleppo pepper substitute, combine four parts sweet paprika plus one part cayenne pepper OR purchase Korean Gochugaru pepper (My note: If you can't find aleppo pepper I doubt you can find Korean Gochugaru!!)
